The UCSF Nerve Injury Program is co-directed by Dr. Barbaro of the Department of Neurological Surgery and Dr. Edward Diao of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. It is a multidisciplinary program including members of the Neurology faculty (Drs. Engstrom and Ralph), Orthopedic faculty (Dr. Diao), and Plastic Surgery faculty (Dr. Chen Lee). Patients receive multidisciplinary evaluations for peripheral nerve injuries. Surgical management is available in the form of nerve decompression (for entrapment disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome) or nerve exploration and repair including intraoperative nerve studies and nerve grafting.
