UCSF campus-wide educational programs afford a spectrum of advanced biomedical education in the form of lectures, seminars, and classes. In addition to the 1-to-1 education provided by teaching neurosurgeons and physicians and by research preceptors in the Neurological Surgery Research Centers (NSRC) and others, the Department of Neurological Surgery offers weekly Neurosurgery Grand Rounds and an active schedule of seminars, journal clubs, and lecture programs, including two distinguished lectureships each year.

Residents are not permitted to participate in surgery on Thursdays so they are free to attend conferences. Residents assigned to SFGH and the SFVAMC are expected to attend Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology Grand Rounds at UCSF on Thursdays, as well as conferences conducted on other days at their respective hospitals. In addition to programs oriented toward their research, fellows are encouraged to attend the weekly Neurosurgery Grand Rounds, Neuro-Oncology Teaching Rounds, Neuro-Oncology Journal Club, and Tumor Board.
